The route at a glance

The RuhrtalRadweg follows the Ruhr for about 230 kilometres, from Winterberg in the Hochsauerland to where the river meets the Rhine at Duisburg. First come the meadows, woods and villages of the Sauerland, then via Arnsberg, Hagen and Witten you reach the industrial Ruhr area. From the route you can reach the Zollverein colliery in Essen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the German Mining Museum in Bochum. You finish at Duisburg's inland port, Europe's largest, and the route is well signposted with plenty of places to stay.
