The route at a glance

The North-South Route is Swiss National Route 3, crossing the country for about 365 kilometres from Basel on the Rhine to Chiasso on the Italian border. The first part takes you past fields, forests and lakes to the Lucerne lake district and Lake Lucerne. Then comes the Gotthard Pass, the toughest part of the trip, before you descend into Ticino with its mild climate and Mediterranean plants. The route is well signposted and suits long-distance riders who are ready for an Alpine pass.
