The route at a glance
The Mauer-Radweg, the Berlin Wall Trail, follows the former line of the Berlin Wall for about 160 kilometres. Along the way you see watchtowers, memorials and surviving sections of the Wall, above all the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße with its documentation centre. Between Berlin's city districts the trail also runs through green suburbs and through Brandenburg, past lakes, forests and nature reserves where the border strip once was. It is well signposted and largely flat, and easy to split into several relaxed stages.
