The route at a glance

The Altmühltal cycle path runs for about 227 kilometres from southeast of Rothenburg ob der Tauber through the Altmühl valley to Kelheim, where the Altmühl flows into the Danube. You ride past rock formations, juniper heaths and wide river meadows. Along the Limes, the old frontier of the Roman Empire, you pass the remains of Roman baths, forts and watchtowers, plus medieval castles, ruins and baroque buildings. It is relaxed riding by the river with a lot of history along the way.
